FTDI issue on Mavericks
« on: September 02, 2014, 12:19:14 PM »
Here is a more permanent fix for the FTDI mavericks issue, use at your own risk, not sure what this might break as far as other USB devices you may be using.  If you run into issues, just move it back to its original name.

Type the following commands into the terminal:
    cd /System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns
    sudo mv AppleUSBFTDI.kext AppleUSBFTDI.disabled
    sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions

Restart your computer

Of course you can continue to just issue the following command after reboots (and after first attempt at accessing the FTDI)

sudo kextunload -bundle-id com.apple.driver.AppleUSBFTDI

On a side note, the people at monome have been trying to get FTDI to fix the crash issue as it causes problems for musicians to have their gear crash because a USB device was removed.  It's been a couple years and FTDI has not gotten around to fixing the issue.  Seems like kind of a big issue considering how ubiquitous FTDI chips are and they apparently are aware of the driver issue.
